Who was St. Peter Chanel?

St. Peter Chanel was born on the 12th of July, 1803 in Montrevel-en-Bresse, Ain, France.
In 1831, at the age of 28, Chanel joined the forming of the Society of Mary, who was concentrate on local and foreign missionary work.
On the 24th of September 1836 Chanel was made the leader of seven Marist missionaries that set out on 24 December from Le Havre. They were accompanied by Bishop Jean Baptiste Pompallier who was to become the first Bishop of New Zealand
St. Peter Chanel died on the 28th of April 1841
